The wartime letters of PRIVATE DOUGLAS GEORGE BUCKLEY
A collection of the wartime letters of Private Douglas George Buckley (1891-1967), who was born in Guysborough, Nova Scotia (Guysboro in the letters). After high school, Douglas went to Toronto and worked with the Sun Life Assurance company and he also became a champion oarsman, part of the team that won the Canadian Henley Regatta in 1914. He enlisted in the Army almost immediately after the First World War began. While in the Army Douglas wrote home at least twice a week. Douglas was posted to Flanders in 1915 and after three months in the trenches, he was severely wounded. He returned to Canada in December 1916.
