Fort St. Louis à Chedabuctou: The Old French Fort on the Outskirts of Guysborough Nova Scotia

Mark Haynes has been researching the history of the Mi’kmaq and Acadians of the Canso District for over forty years.
His interest began in 1979, when on moving to the area from Vancouver, his neighbour Tom Long told him about an old French fort at the entrance to Guysborough Harbour.
“Coming from British Columbia, the oldest thing I had ever seen was a tree. Here were ruins from the 1600’s. Having read two books on the history of the area, I was fascinated that neither author had any idea when European settlement at Guysborough began.” The mystery of a town which didn’t know its routes.
The first version of this book won Ist Prize Non-Fiction in the 1995 Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia contest for an unpublished manuscript.
In 1996 the theme of the book was presented at the University of Poitiers, France at the French Colonial Historical Society with an offer of publication.
